How do I get over my past? Such a question has already been put to me by a friend. He once said to me, ” Thomson, I do not want to know anything about my past. My past seems determined to follow me and make me unhappy… ” With compassion, I looked at him, stared into my eyes, with compassion, and realized that I was not the only one who was confronted with such a situation. Should I remain indifferent? No, I shared some valuable tips with him. I found it necessary to help people who suffer terribly from their past. This is the very reason for this writing.
The life of man is inscribed in time: between the past, the present, and the future. Every man has a past, whether he’s recent or not, dark or not, glorious or not. But that is not the problem. Whether we want it or not, our past always arises in our life. The past is like our shadow, everywhere it follows us. And that’s where many people suffer. What to do when our past resurfaces? How to manage our past? How to overcome our past? How to Get Over the Past?
Do you have problems or conflicts with your past? Well, you’re not the only one to be confronted. You do not have to despair. Author Thomson Dablemond invites you to read this blog to answer the question: How do I get over my past?
I – How Do I Get over My Past?
I know you’re asking yourself such a question: How do I get over my past?
Obviously, before answering the question: how can I get over my past? It is wise that you know what to do first of your past. The following points will answer your concern.
1. Learn From the Past but Do Not Live There
These negative experiences that you can really use for learning and future experiences, as painful as they are. Take the time to think about the experience and watch it. You can learn from your experiences by thinking about these simple questions: What really happened? Answer only by confronting the facts. What emotions do I feel? Personally, I like writing them. How can I use this to empower me and my feelings?
After answering these questions, it’s time to move on. Although thinking about the past for a little while is acceptable, lingering over it will only keep negative thoughts and feelings. Surely you can not erase or forget your past. From time to time, you will have memories. But do not be fooled by your past. Do not let your past have a heavy weight on you. Take length on your past. Leave your past behind you. Consider your past as water already poured. Why pity what has already happened? No. This is not ideal for you.
2. Keep Good Memories of Your Past Necessary to Move Forward in Life
Your past has certainly been good and bad. Think about it, and try to remember happy events, events that brought joy, comfort, well-being in your life. Look in your past for what made you smile. These are the kind of memories you need to keep in mind. We earn more when we do this.
3. Stop Blaming Your Past
Playing the role of the victim is easy and sometimes feels pretty good, especially when it comes to accepting the truth. The problem is, blaming others keeps you from moving forward. Most of the time, pointing fingers only complains.
Do you know? Blaming others gives power to someone else and makes us small. Consider this fact: ” When we blame, we automatically enter the negative zone. We hate someone else or an external factor because we were not able to shape life in our favor.”
4. Make Peace With Your Past: The Need for Forgiveness
Many people suffer because they cannot make peace with their past. Learn to forgive others, and to yourself.
Forgive those who have wronged you, including yourself. If you have been hurt by someone, the last thing you may want to do is forgive them. But, as Dr. Wayne Dyer says, ” forgiving others is essential to spiritual growth.” Dyer has 15 steps to help you forgive someone, like embracing the past while continuing, making a new agreement with yourself, not sleeping Angry, and being kind and generous.
While you’re there, forgive yourself. Nobody is perfect, and we all make mistakes. Instead of kicking yourself for your past mistakes, put yourself aside and focus on the lessons you have learned.
Once you do not wear that anger and resentment, you can continue.
5. Disconnect From Your Past
Allow yourself to take a little time so that you can clear your head. Get away from the situation by moving away from people, places, and things that remind you of the past, especially your heavy and dark past. By practicing ways of disconnecting from your past, you will get away from your past. Thus, you will have a perspective on the past.
So far you know what to do with your past. It’s already good. If, you can put this into practice. Now that you know what to do with your past, you have to look forward, make progress in life and that’s where many people make mistakes. ” He who does not progress every day goes back every day.” (Confucius).
II – Aspire to Progress: Advance in Life!
You have to do with your past. But that’s not all. Now, look to evolve in life. The more you seek to progress in life, the more valuable steps you take to overcome your past.
1. Embrace the Present
One of the most effective ways to let go of the past is to embrace the present. Instead of reliving the past and consuming with negativity, keep yourself active and enjoy the moment. Learn a new skill. Meditate. Exercise. Dine with a friend. Make a new friend. Anyway, just live in the moment – even if it’s just sitting at your desk and watching the clouds go by. The most important thing is to try to move on by leaving behind your past. Devote your life to what will help you progress in life and contribute to your fulfillment.
Living in the moment also called attention, ” means being with your thoughts as they are, neither grasping nor pushing them away.” Psychology Today states that ” conscious people are happier, more exuberant, more empathic and more secure. ”
To reach a more conscious state, be aware of what you think and feel, reduce self-awareness, search for new experiences, and accept negative feelings and situations as simply part of life. Make your present, your ally, your friend, your partner.
Smile to life. May every day be like a brick that will allow you to build a new life in the spirit of a peaceful and better life.
2. Make Yourself a New Image, Revamp Your Thoughts and Your Surroundings
Take an inventory of the people around you. Who is negative and who always belittles you? Who are the people associated with the past you are trying to distance yourself from? You may need to move away from these people to find more positive people who will empower you.
There are more than enough ways to meet new people, for example, attending local meetings and conferences. Do not be shy. Go ahead and find a new group of friends and acquaintances who can help you move forward. Rest assured that your new meetings are in line with your progress and that you have a better common vision. The wrong choice of your entourage may make you fall into the same mistakes and pains of the past.
Try to redirect your ideas. Since you have sought to learn from the past, you have the resources to revamp your thoughts to move forward and improve your life.
3. Make New Memories
Finally, start creating new positive memories to replace those negative memories of the past. Spend your time with people who make you happy, things that bring you joy, and places that bring you peace. Making new memories is better than being stuck in the past. Remember that your present gives you every day a blank page of your life. So enjoy it. Fill the pages of your life every day with beautiful memories.
Here you have the answer to your concern: How can I get over my past? However, I would like to share with you the testimony of some experiences and also look into what the Bible teaches you about your past.
III – How Do I Get over My Past? – the Example of the History of Jaden Hayes
Have you heard of Jaden Hayes? It’s a little boy who had a very difficult start in life. His father died when he was only 4 years old. And just two years after this tragic episode, he will discover the body of his mother, who died in his sleep. Everyone was sorry for him and looked at Jaden Hayes with sadness.
Jaden Hayes, tired of seeing so many sad-faced people around him, began to think of a way to make people happy again. He thought that by smiling at people around him, they would do the same. Jaden Hayes and her aunt, who lived in the Savannah in the United States, then began to approach the sad-looking people in the street. The little boy smiled at them and sometimes offered them a little toy.
The media relayed this information and people began to send pictures of their own smiles to Jaden Hayes and gifts…
A national movement is even born of this initiative.
One can ask the question: how can a little boy who has lost so much give so much?
Due to painful circumstances, many of us can totally sink into sadness and isolation. Yet I believe that God can show you a different way, as for Jaden. He can help you go through the trial with your head high with Jesus, with His grace, and turn your pain into joy as it says in the Bible …
” I will change their mourning into gladness, and I will comfort them, and I will give them joy after their sorrows.” (Jeremiah 31.13.
Please, will you pray with me? “Lord, you see the situation in which I find myself, what I lost, what was taken away from me, it is difficult to live, but I think that you have foreseen a way out for me. me how to act and transform my pain into joy, that I even become a source of encouragement and blessing for others, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.”
IV – How Do I Get out My Past? – Get out of Your Past
” Do not consider what is old. Behold, I am doing something new ” (Isaiah 43: 18-19).
Jerry Lewis was having fun saying that his best wedding gift was the film of the ceremony. When his couple was at worst, he could isolate himself in a room, get the film upside down, and out as a free man!
It’s funny, but you cannot go back and rewrite the story. As much as want to put a scrambled egg in its shell. To remain stuck in the past is always at the expense of the future, but learning from the past gives you the means to make this future better. As soon as you say, “If I had known then what I know today,” remember that unless you evolve, you will say the same thing in ten or twenty years.
You say, ” If I had only been able to forgive my spouse instead of blaming him (her), I probably could have saved our marriage. Maybe the memory of abortion is torturing you. You think of this child who could have been there and bring you so much joy. Perhaps despite your good intentions, you have done wrong, even to commit a crime. Today you say, ” If only …” Well here’s what God says:
1) ” Your sins are forgiven by the name of Jesus Christ. ” 1 John 2.12.
2) ” I take it upon myself to forgive your revolts and to no longer keep the memory of your mistakes. ” Isaiah 43.25.
3) ” Do not remember the first events, and do not consider what is old. Here I am doing something new, it is now in germ, will not you recognize it? I will put a path in the desert. ” Isaiah 43: 18-19.
Regardless of your past, you can count on God’s mercy, kindness, forgiveness in Jesus Christ, if you accept Jesus as Lord and personal Savior. He will give you his peace, not like the world or others can give it to you. God wants to rewrite your story. Are you ready? And what is your wish? God wants to give another meaning and a new image of your life by transforming your black past for a better future. What are you waiting for?
Get out of your past. And listen to this word of the end of the Lord to you in these words: ” Remember what happened from ancient times, for I am God, and there is none else, I am God, and no one is like me, I proclaim from the beginning what is to come, And long beforehand what is not yet done, I say, My judgments shall subsist, And I will execute all my will. ” Isaiah 46: 9-10.
V – Do Not Look at Your past but at Your Future in Christ
” When the devil reminds you of your past, you remind him of his future! ”
The future of the devil is shame and hell, so do not look at your past life wanting to return to the risk of having the same future as the devil. But look at your future which will be glorious because Jesus Christ tells you all things will become new, and the kingdom of heaven will be your home forever.
May the peace and grace of God rest upon your life, and may the God of love bring you out of your darkness and your past, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
